Meet Louie: Our Furry Co-Therapist
Louie, a charming 2-year-old miniature Aussie-Doodle, is more than just a cute face at Wellness & Courage. He's a dedicated therapy dog in training, bringing warmth and comfort to our clients. From his early days as a 10-week-old pup, Louie has been learning the ropes, mastering basic and advanced obedience, and working towards his AKC Good Citizen certification. This spring, he'll take the next step by testing for his Alliance of Therapy Dogs certification.
Alongside his handler, Krissa Gordon, LPC, Louie is committed to continuous growth, aiming for the Animal Assisted Therapy - Interventionist (AAT-I) credential. This advanced training ensures ethical and effective animal-assisted therapy, aligning with the highest standards of the American Counseling Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Like any good therapist, Louie is a work in progress. He's diligently practicing "Good Manners" and "Quiet," overcoming his natural enthusiasm for jumping and barking. While officially a Therapy Dog in Training, he's already making a significant impact, offering calming cuddles, playful fetch, and a repertoire of tricks during sessions. He may need occasional breaks to manage overstimulation or refine his behavior, ensuring a positive therapeutic experience.
This 21-pound, non-shedding, non-allergy provoking, bundle of joy loves to hike and walk, play chase with his sister Shiba, herd his feline companions, and engage in a spirited game of tug-of-war. But most importantly, Louie is here to help you feel calm, safe, and loved.
